Lottery Fraud Alert - Dont be scamed |
| |
It has come to our attention that fraudulent emails are being sent in our name that inform the recipient that they have won a large prize, in order to collect this prize the recipient should send some form of advanced fee. These emails are NOT from www.thebigbiglotto.com. To read up more on advanced fee fraud kindly take a look at these links:
| |
| |
- Has the sender used a free email address such as Yahoo or Hotmail or the like? Type in the email domain into your browser and check if you don't know!
- Can these idiots spell? if not, can they use a spell checker? (more than likely not).
- Are you required to send a fee? Usually 1% to cover some inane cost?
- Do they use words such as "misappropriation" and "fiduciary" (which they usually spell "fud...") and other language to make their scam more "official"?
| |
The best way to deal with this is simply to delete the email. Don't give them the time of day otherwise you will find yourself receiving a lot more of these types of emails. |
Where do they get your details?
-
Off web sites and news groups. When making public postings, rather use a free email address for people to contact you on, also be careful of putting too much detail of who you are as this helps scamsters personalise emails.
-
Never click on any links in unsolicited email as this will record your details and could result in more junk coming your way (and if you really have to, right click on the mail, "click on view source" and copy the link out of the mail. Some sites don't work without the full link including an email address so copy the whole link out and put in a fake email address. Now you can view the site without them knowing your email address.
-
When sending bulk mail to your friends (jokes etc.), as a courtesy to them use BCC (blind carbon copy) for all your addresses. Scam artists are known to harvest email addresses from these fields. Not that your friends are but you never know who they are going to forward the mail to...
-
Viruses or Trojan's sent to you in spam have been known to send your details to fraudsters.
